Two Ways to Wear One Simple Black Tank Top

As University of Maryland students, especially those living in standard dorms, we don’t have the most spacious living quarters. While we would love to bring all our clothes with us, we have all accepted that this is just not possible.

It may seem repetitive and noticeable to wear the same pieces over and over again. However, if they are basic pieces, you can change up the ensemble by pairing it with different items in your closet. This doesn’t just work for wearing something to class or out on the town on different days- you can easily transition a basic piece from day to night.

Take a black tank top, for example. Its versatility allows you to wear it wherever and whenever. Pair it with different items in your closet and you can make this tank top appropriate for any occasion.

This look is perfect for early fall in Maryland. The tank top and denim shorts will keep you cool when walking from class to class, but the light sweater will keep you from freezing if you have any early morning classes or have a super air-conditioned classroom. I accessorized this look with simple jewelry such as silver stud earrings, a small charm necklace, and a few Alex and Ani bracelets. Since we’re doing a lot of walking during the day, I chose to pair this outfit with Birkenstocks, but you could wear whatever you’re the most comfortable in.

The evening look is all about comfort and style. Because everyone knows that a night out in College Park will involve a fair amount of standing, walking and possibly being packed like sardines in a tiny, hot room, I opted for a more edgy look by pairing my black tank with ripped skinny jeans. Since it is such a simple outfit, I accessorized with a statement necklace and a stack of bracelets. Black Converse shoes are a great option because they keep your feet protected and look good with anything.
