As a college student, you can easily find yourself on a budget. Textbooks alone are expensive enough to worry anyone, so it’s unrealistic to buy an entirely new wardrobe for cooler weather. Thankfully, some staple pieces from your summer wardrobe are easily transferable into your new collection with the addition of a few inexpensive pieces.
For girls, it is easy to transform your go-to combination of shorts and a tank top into a stylish yet smart outfit. By placing that tank top underneath a comfortable cardigan, you are ready for the cool temperatures you’ll face during the morning walks to class. Pairing this combination with a pair of jeans and a pair of booties creates a look with not only enough coziness to relax comfortably amongst friends, but also a put-together appearance perfect for a day out or a day of class.
One of the summer’s hottest trends was the emergence of the t-shirt dress. This style offers the opportunity to dress up the piece through sandals and a chunky necklace or dress it down with a pair of white sneakers. In order to continue wearing this staple item through the fall, you can pair it with one of the hot items of the fall: a cargo jacket. This look, completed with either your trusty pair of white sneakers (versatile for both summer and fall!) or a pair of combat boots, another fall essential, is a perfect look to sport on a trip to explore D.C. or for a casual night out.
For guys, shifting the casual t-shirt from summer to fall is possible with a little bit of help! A t-shirt might not provide the best protection for Maryland fall mornings, so it should be paired with something that will provide warmth: a flannel and jeans! The flannel has been a staple fall piece for the past few seasons and serves as a stylish, yet comfortable, men’s fashion choice. Vans are a pair of shoes that are interchangeable between summer and fall styles and really any ensemble.
To suit the man with a preppy fashion taste, the button-up shirt worn with sleeves rolled up during the summer can easily serve as a key fall fashion piece. Rather than sporting your signature Sperry’s, pair this shirt with khaki dockers and loafers. This style is perfect for a classroom presentation/job interview or a night out on the town.
Transitioning into your fall wardrobe shouldn’t be as stressful and time-consuming as ordering your textbooks! Dive into your closet and see what you have!
