When it comes to living a happy life, it is important to tap into that unconventional topic that some people wouldn’t dare speak of: sex.
There are many situations in which students become sexually active, whether they are in a relationship, have a friend with benefits, or if they engage in one-night stands.
However, when asked, a majority of people said they are happiest with their sex lives when they are in a committed relationship.
“Having sex when I’m in a meaningful relationship is more meaningful to me than one-night stands because you know the person you are having sex with cares about you, and with a one-night stand they are just done with you,” freshman studio art major Alana Poser said. “When you are in a committed relationship you are also with somebody who knows your body well, which makes it more enjoyable.”
Some people disagree, however, and believe that a relationship isn’t the only means of having a happy sex life.
Kevin Ross, sophomore biology major and someone in a committed long-distance relationship, has a lot of different perspectives on sex.
He said he believes virginity is important and that committed sex is the best, but he can appreciate the thrill of a one-night stand.
“One night stands are really cool because you can really luck out and have crazy, hot, intense sex,” said Ross. “It can be awesome, and you can do whatever you want and not have to worry about the emotional side of it.”
And then there are those people who find someone to call their ‘friend with benefits,’ so they have a steady hook-up buddy without having to invest their time in a relationship.
“I don’t have the time for a relationship nor do I have the energy,” Chris Bangert-Drowns, freshman bio-chemistry major, said. “Hook-ups are annoying because they aren’t consistent. They aren’t guaranteed.”
Each person has their own preference of how and why they choose to have sex, but the most important aspect of sex is happiness, so make sure you are happy with your sex life.
