Game day in College Park just got a lot easier thanks to the athletic program’s new ticketing system.
Student government Athletic Liaison Ian Moritz says that the athletic department went out of their way to streamline the process for students
The new system gives students the same access as season ticket holders and gives students the flexibility to return tickets or transfer them to other students. Those features were not available under the previous system.
“On big game days, the site would crash,” says Moritz of the old system. “It was outdated and not user-friendly.”
Kevin LaFrancis, a sophomore government and politics and journalism double major, commented that the new system is a little different than the old one. “I like how it sends you an email notification,” he said.
Beyond email reminders, the new system also allows for students to go paperless. The ticket is sent via email, allowing students to flash a barcode to enter Byrd Stadium or the Comcast Center. Moritz believes that this feature is a sustainable option compared to each student printing one of the 10,000 tickets available.
“It’s such a huge waste,” Moritz said. “You’re printing an 8 x 11 inch piece of paper for a barcode.”
Some students are not fully updated on the new system. To help ease the transition, Maryland Athletics created a short video on the full features of the website.
