If you want to impress this Halloween, don’t be caught in a mediocre costume; let your imagination and creativity run wild. With students tediously planning their costumes, going as a ghost, witch, or cat will not be enough this year.
For Halloween 2013, students are not just pushing the boundaries, they are blurring the lines. “I’m being Miley Cyrus when she performed at the VMAs with Robin Thicke,” said Caroline Meyers, a sophomore letters and sciences major,.
Also using pop culture for inspiration, Holly Cuozzo, sophomore journalism major, claims she and her friends are going as various Katy Perry songs. “I’m dressing up as a peacock; my friend is wearing sparkles because she is being a firework; and my other friend is dressing up as Justin Bieber because he is being a teenage dream,” said Cuozzo.
Some costumes are especially elaborate. Karla Luetzow, a sophomore elementary education major, described how she and her friends are going as a play on words. “We’re all going to wear shirts with Z’s on them and then our one friend is going to have a net. We’ll all be catching some Z’s on Halloween,” she said.
Also going as a group are Dana Haimovitz and Maddie Monaco, freshmen animal science majors. “We’re going to be mermaids,” Monaco said as she described their ideas for matching hair, make-up, and fins.
Whether it is a scandalous pop star or a clever pun, this year’s Halloween costumes are sure to be anything but dull.
